In addition to big prizes, I've received a variety of smaller awards as well, including concert tickets, gift cards, and free things ranging from a jar of pasta sauce to a football.

I keep track of all of my wins, major and minor. Every few months, I seem to win a decent reward. And by "decent," I mean something worth at least $25.

Everyone believes I'm fortunate, but I'm not. To win sweepstakes, all you have to do is enter. I always look for bargains, rebates, and incentive deals on any promotional sign I see. I do, however, keep my eyes peeled for sweepstakes. Also, I always make it a point to read the fine print. This is because the entry period, entry limits, and any AMOE (alternate method of entry) are all listed there.

Before entering sweepstakes or giveaways, I look for the following: Local sweepstakes are my top preference. Sweepstakes with a short entry time (normally a month or less) are also appealing to me. I also look for sweepstakes that have several entry options.

Where do I find all of my sweepstakes?
In-store, on Twitter, on Facebook, in the newspaper, in advertisements, on the radio/TV, at grand openings, and on local media pages, I find them everywhere. You may be surprised to learn that there are more local sweepstakes and giveaways than you expect.

When it comes to local sweepstakes, you'll almost certainly be up against hundreds or thousands of other entrants. The number of entries for nationwide sweepstakes skyrockets. I must confess, though, that I have secured the highest and largest prizes in national sweepstakes. Yes, I still join national sweepstakes for cars, trips, and large sums of money.

In the end, I simply do what most people would not: I stop at any entry pad I see and enter. And, always read the fine print. It just takes a few seconds to fill out the form, and the payoff could be substantial.
