Just won a sweeps prize that you don’t have any use for? Don’t worry - you may be able to exchange it for CASH! Wondering how? Here’s how!
Cash options - what are they?
Some sweepstakes giveaways offer cash options to winners. If the winner isn’t able to use the prize or doesn’t want it for whatever reason, they can choose to get the cash prize instead.
Sometimes, the cash value that is offered is the same as the approximate retail value of the gift. But, other times, the cash value may be lesser than the value of your prize. Even then, cash options are great for sweepstakes enthusiasts. After all, if you win a cruise but you can’t actually go on the trip, you may be better off receiving money in its place.
How can you pick the cash option instead of the prize?
Typically, if the sponsor is offering a cash option, it will be mentioned in the rules of the sweepstakes giveaway. In this case, there’s not much you need to do - you can just let the sponsor know you want to accept the cash prize.
If the rules of the sweepstakes do not specify a cash option, you’ll need to accept that the chances of you getting cash instead of the prize is not very high. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with politely asking the sponsor if there’s a cash option available.
What to do if the sponsor doesn’t offer a cash option
If the sponsor doesn’t offer you a cash option, you can choose to decline the prize. It may be frustrating, but your prize will go to someone who may be able to use it well. If you’ve already received a physical prize that you have no need for, you can sell it online on sites like eBay.
