Professional sweepers can sometimes have a negative image among sweepstakes sponsors. One of the reasons is that they often act jaded about winning instead of being humble and excited. So, if you’re looking to win sweepstakes and not lose your humanity, here are some helpful tips about what NOT to do when winning big sweepstakes prizes.

Don't Brag About Your Wins

In the popular sweepstakes documentary, ‘Winning for a Living’, a sponsor spoke about how a winner bragged about the number of cars he or she had already won as if it would impress the sponsor. Instead, it left a bad taste in the sponsor's mouth. Nobody wants to hear that they're just another notch in your belt especially when they're giving away a big prize. So keep in mind that you should try to make each sponsor feel as if their prize was the best you ever received. This doesn’t mean you have to lie if you are asked whether you've won any other sweepstakes before. Instead, you could say something in the lines of, "I've never won a contest like this one!"

Don't Be Ungrateful For The Free Products You Win

If you happen to enter a ton of sweepstakes, chances are that you might win a prize from a company that you don't love so much. When that happens, keep your negative opinion to yourself. Don't ever get carried away in the heat of the moment and talk about how much you hate the company. An example of this is when HGTV ® Dream Home Winner Stephanie Dee's husband was asked if he had ever watched HGTV ®. He said 'Only when Stephanie makes me - but I'm going to watch a lot more now!'. This probably isn't the aggressive endorsement that the sponsors expected after giving away an enormous prize. Instead, he could’ve said something like, "I'm sure it’ll be my favorite channel now!". This response would’ve been smarter.

Don't Clam Up

Sweepstakes sponsors can often spend tons of money designing and implementing sweepstakes, all with the goal of getting some good publicity for their company. A part of that publicity can include being able to use quotes from their sweepstake winners in press releases and on their websites. This can be very hard to do if their winners don't express their excitement about winning. So even if you feel completely overwhelmed, try taking a deep breath, get your thoughts in order, and try to answer any questions that the sponsor might ask you with high enthusiasm.
